Live-Tweeting Game 1 of the NBA Finals

I’ll admit it: I know very little about basketball. I enjoy watching it, but I am definitely not qualified to be sharing my opinions and observations about Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Twitter. But, I did. And I think I did a pretty great job if I do say so myself.

As I said, I’m not qualified to comment on any aspect of basketball, so I took a different approach to live-tweeting. Instead of reporting highlights of the game, I owned the fact that basketball isn’t my forte and simply shared the thoughts that came into my head as I watched the game.

My favorite tweet of the night has to be the one pictured above. I love tweets that are funny or have some kind of reference to a picture or video, so I wanted to try my hand at that.

I also wanted to share my prediction of the winner. I thought it would be a good idea to reference that tweet throughout the night with updates so it would at least somewhat act as an update on the actual game.

Here’s another example of how I commented on the actual game:

I have never live-tweeted before, so I had a few hiccups. First, I didn’t know how often I should be tweeting. Is once every 5 minutes too much? What if I don’t have anything to comment on during that time? Second, I kept getting distracted by the actual game, like I forgot that I was live-tweeting and just watching for my own entertainment.

I think if I were to live-tweet again, I would choose a different event, like an awards ceremony. I think my voice fits better in the entertainment world than it does in the sports world.
